These terms govern your use of doubledutchpublishing.com and all associated services, including The Underread, Underread+, the Readers Room, Fiction, and Writers Tools (together, the “Site”). By using the Site, you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the Site.
Who we are
The Site is operated by Double Dutch Publishing, a Wyoming limited liability company. Throughout these terms, “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to Double Dutch Publishing.
Using the Site
You may browse the Site, use The Underread’s free search, read Fiction and Readers Room content, and subscribe to our newsletter without creating an account. Some features, including Underread+ (saved search history, unlimited searches, personalized monthly picks), require an account.
You agree to provide accurate information when creating an account, to keep your login credentials secure, and to be responsible for activity under your account. You must be capable of forming a binding contract in your jurisdiction to create an account.
Underread+ subscriptions
Underread+ is a paid subscription service. Pricing is displayed on the Site at the time of purchase. Subscriptions renew automatically at the interval you select (monthly, annually, or as a one-time lifetime purchase, where offered) until cancelled. You can cancel at any time through your account settings; cancellation stops future billing but does not retroactively refund the current billing period unless otherwise stated at the time of purchase or required by law in your jurisdiction.
We reserve the right to change Underread+ pricing for future billing periods with reasonable advance notice. Price changes will not apply retroactively to a period you’ve already paid for.
Content and intellectual property
All content on the Site, including but not limited to fiction, essays, reviews, articles, the Terry Was There series, the Underread corpus and its curation, and site design, is owned by Double Dutch Publishing or its contributing authors and is protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws.
Fiction and articles published free on the Site remain the intellectual property of their authors. You may read and share links to this content, but you may not reproduce, republish, or distribute it without our written permission, except for brief excerpts used with proper attribution and a link back to the original.
Book recommendations and reviews
The Underread’s recommendations are generated through hand-curated corpus matching, not automated popularity ranking or paid placement. Reviews and editorial content reflect the genuine opinions of their authors. Books published by Double Dutch Publishing’s own imprints may appear in search results and recommendations when editorially relevant, but receive no unearned ranking advantage; see our recommendation policy for details.
Amazon Associates disclosure
Double Dutch Publishing is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by linking to Amazon.com. When you click a “Buy on Amazon” link and make a purchase, we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you. This does not influence which books are recommended to you; see our recommendation policy for how we separate editorial selection from commerce.
Acceptable use
You agree not to: use the Site for any unlawful purpose; attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the Site or its underlying systems; scrape or systematically harvest content or data from the Site without our permission; interfere with the Site’s normal operation; or impersonate any person or entity.
Disclaimers
The Site and its content are provided “as is” without warranties of any kind, express or implied. Book recommendations are offered as curated suggestions, not guarantees of your enjoyment or satisfaction. We do not warrant that the Site will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure at all times.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Double Dutch Publishing shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Site, including but not limited to loss of data, revenue, or goodwill, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages. Our total liability for any claim arising from these terms or your use of the Site shall not exceed the amount you paid us, if any, in the twelve months preceding the claim.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Wyoming, United States, without regard to conflict of law principles, except where local consumer protection laws in your jurisdiction provide you with rights that cannot be waived.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. We’ll update the “Last updated” date above when we do. Continued use of the Site after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
