Submission Guide
Read this before you write to us. Everything we publish goes out free and in full, so the only question we ask of a story is whether it is good.
Short fiction, 1,500–7,500 words. Literary, speculative, quiet horror, anything that starts as one thing and ends as another. Novel excerpts only if they stand alone.
A flat fee per accepted story, paid on acceptance, stated when a reading window opens. First publication rights only; the story stays yours.
One story at a time, in the form below. Attach a link to a Google Doc, Dropbox or PDF; no pasted manuscripts, no zip files.
We read in windows, not year round, because a one-desk press that reads everything cannot read everything at once. You will hear back either way.
Simultaneous submissions to us of the same story twice in one window, work already published anywhere including your own newsletter, and anything written by a machine. We check.
Anything the guide doesn't answer, write to the desk directly. Please don't send the story by email; the form keeps it in one place.
